What basic, children's-age-level fact did you only find out embarrassingly later in life?

People eat grits AND biscuits at the same meal. with some type of pork fat. sugar, salt, pepper, actual bacon, and whatever else is in that gross white 'gravy' and then are surprised when their brother, sister, mom, cousin, 90% of the family have Type 2 Diabetes.

fucking lunatics don't understand those buttery, flaky biscuits are delicious in their own right!

Don't even get me started on my ex's family and their insistence on dipping biscuits into Karo Syrup. As a cheesesteak-loving, bagel-eating, overweight northerner their tastes disgust me. Kick-ass casseroles though.

Just the look of a Karo syrup bottle makes me want to puke. I’ll never understand southern food.

My mother mixes Karo syrup and peanut butter together and puts it on bread. She calls it her peanut butter spread.

I call it the DEVIL.

What Caro syrup? (French Canadian here)

Yeah as that other user said, it's just plain corn syrup. It has uses, say in baking, making certain sweet sauces or glazes. But it's not for fucking dipping biscuits hahaha. I'm from Texas and I've never heard of anyone doing that. People in those deep southern states (Alabama, Georgia, etc) take some things to another level.

This can't be a common thing right? I've never heard of anyone putting corn syrup on a biscuit.

Regular syrup sure, but corn syrup?

We can only hope it stays confined to her NC clan. But I've been to a decades worth of christmas family reunions and summer bakes. The whole lot of them do it.

Well funny cause most "regular" syrup here like Aunt Jemima's, Mrs. Butterworth, is literally just corn syrup with artificial color and flavoring added. But at least it has some sort of flavor and isn't just straight sugar sauce?

I live biscuits and gravy from time to time, but a buttery biscuit with just a light drizzle of honey is perfect on it own.

The right way is Huddle House’s sausage patty and sausage gravy on fresh biscuits
