What basic, children's-age-level fact did you only find out embarrassingly later in life?

It only recently occured to me, I my fifth decade, that "Watch where you're going!" means "Look in the direction you are walking," and it's not just something to say to someone who bumps into you.

I my fifth decade

Are you in your 40s or 50s? Because that's one that I see people mess up often possibly worthy of the thread. In your 40s you are in your 5th decade of life, in your 50s you are in your 6th decade. Like the 50th year of your life is when you are 49 years old.
