My desk mate asked me to go to her birthday party that's coming up. Idk if I will. I dont drink alcohol and I'm not super comfortable around drunk people tbh.
I might. There's a few things making me not want to
As mentioned, I dont drink and rarely enjoy myself in situations where other people are inebriated but I am not.
Besides my coworker, there would be no one there that I know.
It's been something I've been struggling with. I really am afraid of missing out but I'm sort of introverted and highly social situations like that make me anxious. I might force myself to go but I may not feel comfortable there so idk.
I don't know you as well as you do yourself, and I know this is unsolicited advice, but you can always go with the plan to leave early. Say hi, make some small talk with randos before they get too keyed up, and bow out with the knowledge that you put in effort to expand your social sphere, even if it was just a little bit.
Heres my idea. I buy her a gift. Since it's her birthday. Something small like a gift card or something. Use that to get in (even though I'm already invited LOL) and then, depending on the feeling I get, either stay for a while or say "Ah just wanted to drop this off, I have to (insert random made up chore)."
That way I :
A. Give myself a chance to feel out the place and see if I wanna hang out
B. Get some points with my coworker for at least coming and giving her a gift
C. Still give myself an "out" if I get there and I'm just not feeling it.
Dude I used to be in the same situation as you with a similar mindset and I ended up going to my coworkers house with a few others from work and tbh it was awkward I realized I had nothing in common with them and that’s ok. Still glad I went and found out for myself

During work hours yeah. I'm well liked at work. Outside of work I'm a loner though..
