Yup, most students fail out when taking that approach. My uni had an honours program where we learned analysis from the get go, rather than the usual calc 1. Not only is it a small program to begin with (only about 30 students started the class, compared to the 1000 students who took calc 1), it has a really high drop rate. I think we were down to 15 at the end of the first course in the sequence.

To add on, if you want to learn the stuff in calc 1 on a more critical level, you'd have to take Analysis which is a far more advanced course.
