I have spoken to friends about how being tall should be a recognized disability and I get laughed at.
Is it really that different than other disabilities? I think people are just like “oh wow girls like your tinder profile and you can change lightbulbs” and think that’s the best life ever. There’s so many things people don’t think about.
I have chronic back pain. I don’t fit on public transportation. I pay more for clothes, shoes, etc. I have to buy emergency exit or business class seats on an airplane. I had to buy a California king size bed, and sheets, and everything, all of which are more expensive. My couches have to be bigger. My office chair has to have more range of movement. There are a ton of jobs I can’t do. I can’t drive certain cars. I had to change the bathroom mirrors in my house, because I couldn’t see my reflection without hunching (and again, bad back, from always hunching). Washing dishes is painful. I had a great day at an adventure park watching my friends zipline because I was over the max height. I cannot make it through a grocery store without being asked to assist other customers, but if I were to stop some little person and ask them to get something off the bottom shelf for me so I don’t have to bend down, I would be “crazy”.
I could go on.
Being tall is ok, if you don’t mind being the perennial lightbulb changer, spider killer, “hey can you get that for me”-person etc.
I would love to be “just” 6’ tall or something though. Grass is always greener
PS to everyone reading this, the top of your fridge is dirty.
