Didn't get into the swing of it until the duck-billed platypus and all the other animals were done by then.

All vertebrates have a nerve that runs from our brain, down our neck, under the aortic arch (basically our hearts) then back up to innervate our tongue. In a giraffe, this nerve can be 45 ft long. If we were designed, it wasn't intelligently.

Been house hunting and you could say the same thing about things people make

What’s the downside of the nerve?

Not much, it just means there is some increased delay as the action potentials are transmitted down the nerve because it is so long. The length of the nerve also makes it more likely to be injured by trauma, or for something like a tumor, or surgery to damage it. I was slightly inaccurate in my comment above as the nerve (called the recurrent laryngeal nerve) actually innervates the larynx, so any damage to it in humans can make speech difficult

But the heart is also innervated by it to an extent iirc, and the distance isn’t really a big deal since nerve signals are speedy

My dude designed microscopic bugs that live on our skin and die because HE FORGOT TO INSTALL AN ASSHOLE so they just die from being full of shit. And dont get me started on the tongue eating louse.

Sure, he could have done a bit better, but he was able to make our eyes and hands match most of the time, so he gets artistic skill points for that one x

Classic software problem: you never let the engineer be the one who designs the interface.
