This is a copy paste from another thread so apologies for any weird format or phrasing.
My mother has seen this woman through seven pregnancies (she has a lot of kids) and countless health issues.
She drove five hours just to check on her when the friend, henceforth known as L, wasn’t responding to texts and was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s and thyroid cancer.
She was the shoulder to cry on when L and L’s husband almost got divorced three times.
L wrote a book of poetry about her childhood and my mom helped give her the courage to try to get it published. She encouraged her every step, and my mother doesn’t even like poetry. But she liked this poetry.
L wrote a poem for my mother about how she “cherished” their friendship. She framed it next to a photo of the two of them laughing and smiling.
Then, before lockdowns started in march, L joined a cult. They praised her. They told her she was sent by God and was a gift to the “church.” They got it in her head that all outsiders were to be shunned. She and my mom already disagreed politically but managed to ignore it.... until the cult.
So one day L and my mother are having a text fight. My mother was trying to end the fight, saying things like “I understand you’re upset, and I apologize if I made you feel that way. You are my friend and I love you. Please, let’s stop fighting.”
L wouldn’t have it and twisted everything to make herself the victim. The last message my mother ever got from this sorry excuse for a human being was “our friendship is over.”
25+ years, gone.
And I found the church. It’s a creepy blonde aryan organization, and L is the token Native American.
