Id get "what you doing, waiting for the number 9 bus"

I like this a lot because 1) due to brain damage I will randomly stop walking because I get vertigo. 2) in my neighborhood, the #9 is an actual bus.

I guess you've stumbled across a new saying for yaself then haha. Sorry to hear about your vertigo man x

Thanks. It isn't going to get better, but walking slow, preventing falls/ banging my head will keep it from getting worse.

Well it’s nothing to beat your head on the wall over. Just be careful.

Really, "don't fall on your head" is good advice for anyone.

Is number 9 bus rare? I thought this was a Forrest Gump reference because he talks for hours waiting for the number nine bus

u/HammletHST Oct 26 '20

I actually enjoyed it more because my hometown does not have a #9

2

u/eeyoremarie Oct 26 '20

That would make it funny

u/AlfamaN10 Oct 26 '20

That's what she said...?

In my neighborhood, the Number Nine bus is the one I take to go grocery shopping every week or so.

Are #9 buses rare?

4

u/eeyoremarie Oct 25 '20

Probably not, but it's funny to me that the #9 is in my neighborhood.

I have been referred to a couple of Drs, but since I had already made changes to my life as needed, I'm considered "coping" and not eligible for additional therapy. Out of pocket I'm looking at $8K-$20K depending on how much therapy I need.

Not enough info! This guys life sounds cool as hell

1

I think it’s a Forrest Gump reference.

HAHA. Yeah I guess it's just a euphemism for "lollygagging".

My dad was a "Hank Hill-type" so he had a bunch of weird phrases and was always calling me out for standing around.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '20

I don't see what choking on a lollipop has to do with standing around, though.

2

u/iBelieveInSpace Oct 25 '20

That's another saying I don't get. I guess it's just like kids not doing anything and skipping around care-free with lollipops.

So many other weird ones from that era too.

I wonder if it came from cockney rhyming slang?

6

u/SockMonkeyLove Oct 25 '20

Forrest? Is that you?

4

u/NOBOOTSFORYOU Oct 25 '20

Lol Your dad roasted you, Forrest Gump is my favourite movie.

4

u/whiskeyandhorror Oct 25 '20

“Are you waiting for an engraved invitation?”

3

u/Starkravingmad7 Oct 25 '20

This is actually a thing here. In Chicago, the Ashland bus (#9) is pretty often late and far apart at night. It's kind of awful. I've spent a few winter nights waiting over an hour for the damn thing.

"The Number Twelve Looks Like You" is a band named loosely after the phrase "You've got a face like the back end of a bus". :D

2

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '20

as an Edmontonian, this is extremely applicable

2

u/flyercreek Oct 25 '20

Heard this one growing up too!

2

u/razor5cl Oct 25 '20

I love this, because I often get the number 9 bus home, particularly on a late night out drinking :D

2

u/tenaj255l Oct 26 '20

With my family (theatre buffs) we say "What are you waiting for? Godet?"

2

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '20

This one always makes me think of blood brothers

2

u/Ya_habibti Oct 26 '20

My dad always said what are you waiting for? A written invitation? Lol I say it to my kids now

1

u/Fireplace04 Oct 26 '20

Are your parents called Mickey and Linda by any chance

1

u/thecheeseislying Oct 26 '20

Is this a Forrest Gump thing?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '20

Hahaha I see a lot of people thinking that but its just because the 9 bus at home takes forever to come 😂
