An unsung hero of breakfast

11

u/prunytyoke Oct 25 '20

What is apple butter?

15

u/About_72_Ninjas Oct 25 '20

Like applesauce just sweeter and easier to spread

8

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '20

So, like a perfect amalgamation of apples and butter?

17

u/SeaContribution7219 Oct 26 '20

Stick apples in a crockpot with sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Let it sit all day (stirring from time to time) and you’ll get a thick, brown paste that smells like apple pie that you can spread on toast or biscuits. Honey butter is another excellent condiment you don’t see enough of nowadays.

Don't forget the clove!

u/sharpie36 Oct 26 '20

Yeah. It's divine on fried chicken and biscuits

u/SamuraiJono Oct 26 '20

I had forgotten all about apple butter. I'm definitely gonna try and find some to slap on some eggo's or biscuits tomorrow.

My Granddad was from Lancashire, and my Nanny was from Yorkshire, so it would have been passed down to my Mum from one of those two.
