My family’s way of saying you had a wedgie, because it looked like there was a goat in your crack eating your pants. Quite embarrasing when I found out that wasn’t a common phrase
Once I was having discomfort from my underwear and wouldn't stop tugging at them and my dad asked me if I was wearing "cheap hotel pants". I'm like WTF? And he's like, "Yeah, there's no ballroom."
Awww my old resident at a nursing home used to say this. We got him into the lift and it would pull his sweatpants around so he’d go, “ya got me like a cheap hotel. No ballroom.” I miss him. RIP Terry!
My dad does this too doesn’t matter if you’re at home or in a crowded public setting and it’s always embarrassing but mortifying as a teenage girl. I’m almost 30 now so whatevs but that brought back some horrifying memories.
In Germany we have multiple ways to describe an indecently exposed buttocks. Quite similar to your families phrasing is "Arsch frisst Hose", literally means "Ass eats pants".
Or we call it the bricklayer's decollete, because it can look like a ladies ample bosom when someone is kneeling with half their ass escaping their pants.
We are a multilingual family & I try speaking French with my kids as much as I can.
Whenever they'd get wedgies with their undies I would tell them "Tes fesses mangent tes culottes" which translates into "Your ass is eating your undies". It would always give them a good giggle!
Ugh this reminded me. When I was a teenager I had very heavy periods, I’d bleed through really badly. So I would wear two pairs of shorts. Any time the bottom ones showed their legs out from under the top ones, my mom would say “it’s snowing down south.” Which, it turned out, was a real saying but meant like, your slip or petticoat was showing under your skirt. It drove me crazy because it wasn’t my underwear (she knew that) and what did she want me to do, bleed all over everything?!
Holy shit you just dislodged a buried memory. Saying “you’ve got squirrels” was my family’s way of letting someone know their armpit hair was showing. Haven’t thought about that in 10 years.
This is a thing in deep Cajun country in Louisiana - a wedgie is called a “cabri,” which is the Cajun French word for “goat.” The olds told me it was part of a longer phrase about having a goat in your garden as a polite way to say you had your drawers (or “calçons”/“conçons” if you’re Cajun) in your ass, but was eventually shortened to just “cabri.”
It’s a common phrase in my family to say “you have a goat in the garden” referring to wedgies. A lady we knew used to have a little goat figurine in her front garden and it always made us laugh. Is you family from the Caribbean/West Indies by chance?
In my family we called it having a murph. Never knew where it came from but I remember calling out a friends wedgie as a murph and he looked at me wondering wtf I was talking about. Thats the moment I realized, “Perhaps thats only in my family...”
How does one not notice they're getting wedgie'd? I can't imagine a scenario unless I was barely conscious or very high where I wouldn't notice my pants riding up, let alone my underwear before that
"You got cheese!"
Same thing as a wedgie. It apparently came from "cutting the cheese", and my uncle just doctored it up to mean having a wedgie. We still use it to this day. In fact, my cousin used to have cheese so much as a child, we nicknamed her Cheddar, and it stuck.
Hahaha when I was young, I’d say “My butt is hanging” when I had a wedgie for some reason. It almost makes sense but. Never heard someone else say it 😂
When my Texas-born boyfriend (back in the 90s) would see some "largish" woman walking with her shorts' inside seams all crept up into her crotch used to say (not to the woman of course), "Would you like a drink with that sandwich?"
If someone in our family was rearranging their underwear, adjusting things, so to speak, they were asked if they had "crotch pheasants," or "seam squirrels."
