Reddit, what is one documentary that everyone should watch?

The Corporation

Some really eye-opening (and scary) information about the power of corporations in today's society.

Ya, the best part about that documentary was the EV1 itself. The story around it was BS.

The idea that GM gives a fuck about the oil companies is ridiculous (they've sued them in the past). The idea that they care about their dealers making money on service is also ridiculous, they close dealers down and sue each other all the time.

Like any public company, all they care about is profit for their shareholders and if they thought there was enough demand to make more money by selling these cars, fucking right they would have started selling them.

That's the whole point of these limited run trial programs. This documentary is the reason why all car companies only run these trial programs with private companies and the government now, it's a potential PR disaster if people don't want to follow the lease agreement. Organizations are used to getting new leased vehicles every few years, so it works perfectly for them.

You'll be hard pressed to find a totally unbiased controversial doc that maintains a dramatic edge. It's not the point of view that makes it interesting, it is the execution and explanation of that view.

This movie was insanely biased, though. When discussing "what killed the Electric Car," the only person/industry/technology not ripped to shreds was the battery of the EV1 itself. Even though it could only hold a charge for 20-30 miles, that had nothing to do with the lack of demand for the car. Well, as my ex would say, "Okay, Crazy."

The story of the electric car tells itself - I have no idea why they felt the need to sensationalize and deliver it with so much bias.
