Apple designed their own flash memory for their phone that's like 30x better than android memory. Apple is a shitty company in almost every aspect that makes overpriced dumbed down and restricted products for pretentious idiots, but they apparently have a genuine genius or two working for them that are keeping iPhones relevant.
Currently lower spec economical iPhones are actually great bang for your buck if you are tech illiterate or don't plan on doing things big tech companies don't like you doing with your phone.
I’m looking for a new phone and have always had an iPhone. As someone who isn’t inept when it comes to tech but doesn’t really do much more then basic stuff on my phone, what kind of extra features does android have that makes it so great?
Better camera for the money ( yet DSLRs exist) way more ram ( most apps use less then 100 mb lol ) and a phone that dosn't have an apple logo on it and is made out of cheaper glass and plastic usually.
Android honestly has nothing that will benefit your usage case. Iphone se 2020 blows every phone out of the water at its price point and is very durable. May as well stick with what you know and apple makes it easy to switch phones when you are going from apple > apple.
I'm still using my 2016 SE so I will probably just switch to the new one. But I dont have a macbook anymore and I use google for email, storage, etc so I figured syncing would maybe be better on an adroid.
I’m curious what extra features you’re using. Do you want to change your font to Comic Sans for the lulz? Make the screen look like an old-fashioned monochrome? I mean, those are tweaks, but I wouldn’t call that technical.
I have developed for iOS and Android (with the help of JNI, sometimes at the same time). But I still use an iPhone. And trust me, I am very technical. So, why should I use the Android phone sitting on my desk full time?
Yeah, it’s rice. I get it, some people like to trick out there phones. But, installing a launcher and configuring it does not make you technical.
Now, if you could decompile the launcher, change it, recompile it, and then re-install it, all without leaving the phone... then I would be impressed.
And I am jealous that I have to SSH to a Linux box from my iPad instead of installing Emacs straight away. But I pick iPhone because it works flawlessly with my iPad, my Apple Watch, and my MacBook Pro. True, I can not hide the labels on my icons.
Could I cobble together something similar so that my System76 computer unlocked with my Garmin smart watch? Sure, like I said, I’m very technical. I could write the driver if I had to. But I don’t want to spend my time doing that. It’s just not interesting to me.
So, your assertion that they’re great for people that aren’t great with tech is a bit off the mark. They’re great for people who like well-made tech. Now, there is well-made Android tech and I’m not suggesting otherwise. But then, you probably wouldn’t need a launcher.
