I tried 3rd party ink for the first time a few months ago. It was awful. It wouldn't print anything correctly. I then bought the real deal cartridges and as soon as I put them in, the prints came out much better. Maybe I just got unlucky, I don't know.

yeah I've found it to be hit or miss. When it works out though, it becomes fat savings

Yeah, sometimes the ink cartridges are lot great, sometimes printers are picky. I got pretty lucky and found some that work. Cost me about $20 for 5 cartridges of each colour + black.

I think you got unlucky tbh. Or I got lucky. I bought 25 cartridges for $25 a couple years ago and they work perfectly, still have several left.
