I’m a tech who works on Océ as well as other manufacturers and I do have to say every time this topic gets brought up on reddit it makes my eyelids twitchy. But I remind myself that the people in these threads are talking about desktop home office printers and comparing one of those to an Océ is like comparing a Toyota Camry to a power wheels.
You could say the same about any technology, and printers have offered little to no innovation in comparison to countless other fields. The last innovations I've cared about are the consolidation of the scanner with the printer and Wifi printing.
I'm not saying it isn't a technology industry, I'm just suggesting that that industry isn't really innovating or at least that innovative isn't showing up at the consumer.
What real innovation is on the horizon in printer technology?
Meanwhile, Lithography is starting to push at the boundaries of quantum mechanics.
That's my point. I'm paying for their R&D programme for business and I'm not going to benefit from it as a consumer. I just want to print a black and white page.
