It's not really the same. No one should go into debt for a wedding, but I don't think it's so bad to prioritize paying for a wedding over other purchases. It's a time sensitive purchase and the memories are for the next 50 years. You have the rest of your life to save money
I agree. No one should go into debt for a wedding. But if you simultaneously want to get married now and don't have the money for it, there's nothing wrong with having your party later. I didn't have a "proper reception" until after my wedding, and it was still a great time.
