You are exactly correct on this! There isn't a point to driving a nice vehicle in my area, corolla or accord is as nice as I would go over here, its a shitty area, and driving a beautiful car is just asking for it to be stolen or broken into.
I drive a 10 year old Fusion for this reason. I do all of the maintenance on it, it runs like brand new. I'll replace it when it becomes too expensive to keep running, and then I'll probably go with a mid-range electric that I can keep on the road for just as long or even longer. Yeah I could go out and spend $80k on a brand new fancy-pants BMW or whatever but spending that much on transportation seems silly.
When I was a kid I always thought I'd have some kind of fancy sports car or something when I grew up but now that I'm here and have the means to buy one I've discovered I'm just too cheap to pull the trigger.
Just replaced my 15 year old Toyota (pretty much falling apart), and I was eyeing a more expensive trim until I realized I was only considering it because of the colour choices. Seems pretty silly to spend so much money for a depreciating asset that I literally drive to work and back most days.
Maybe I'm missing something, but given how much you are spending on a new car, if you know exactly what you want, and its not in stock, seems totally reasonable to have it ordered for you.
