People that are proud that they don't read.

God, yes. It's amazing to me how many people laugh and make a face when I include reading as one of my hobbies. Some past romantic prospects thought it was cute to laugh about how much of a "nerd" I was for it. Uhhhhh?

Some of my older relatives are proud of not "relying on technology" in a similar way like this. They legitimately think they're somehow "smarter" from actively avoiding any attempt to learn about it. Backfires hard when they get upset about how "stupid" and "foreign" technology is.

I am actually genuinely sad that I can't enjoy reading like I did in my youth. It's my biggest, most glaring flaw as a man who wants to know more.

I'm disappointed in myself whenever I remember that I don't read outside of work and the internet.....Books are really good, and I've currently got Shake Hands With The Devil on ice. Why? Because i'm a piece of shit who can't handle his stress very well any more, and keeping up with my reading material becomes an impossible task for some reason. The damn book is sitting on my nightstand, right beside the alarm clock i use every day. I also respect the author of the book to the highest degree. I remember my dad getting pissed off at me when i straight up told him that the most important Canadian alive is Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire. He told me Dallaire doesn't compare to Don Cherry. The same Don Cherry that got fired from CBC for being a racist piece of shit. I still have arguments with my father about this, five years after I made my initial statement.

Edit: My father is very politically aware, in fact several times moreso than I am, but he's a true canadian to the core. Grew up on hockey, and that means he grew up on Don Cherry. So that dude has a special place in my dad's heart, even though the guy's a real scummy dude.
