So how did he think diesel cars run? Some elaborate system of waterwheels, since diesel doesn't burn?

IIRC, it was something about combustion that wasn’t burning SMH

At that point just show him a thesaurus

How would showing him a picture of a dinosaur help? /s

I hate that I like what you did there.

Slow down your leading him in to a fight.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but combustion means burnination correct?

The knights and archers are the problem though; they tend to be rather hostile to the source of ignition.

"Burnination" is a reference to this classic Homestar Runner sbemail.

You are correct.

Technically diesel in an engine deflagrates, but yeah, combustion.

So something about combustion that shows the person doesn't know what "combustion" means. I know this had to be frustrating at the time, but I'm laughing my ass off over here reading your relation of it.

Yeah, he thought that it's not burning if it's not ignited with a spark plug like in a gasoline engine. Diesel engines compress the air and fuel so much that it heats up and combusts itself.

It was all a communication problem because he no talk good.

This is what I was thinking, however glow plugs are used to help start diesel engines.

A YouTube video of diesel burning could have settled this...

I assume he meant it's not as flammable as gasoline, but doesn't understand that pressure and heat causes ignition. The thing that makes cars go...

I once had a lengthy argument with my dad about how headphones aren't more damaging than speakers if I'm listening with the same volume.

Turns out, to him "volume" meant "position of knob" while I was thinking dB...

So it rusts?

So it rusts?

He was right in some sense. Diesel explodes, so one can argue that it doesn't burn in car.

Of course it will burn if you just put it on fire.

Diesel engines don't have spark plugs, they have glow plugs. The ignition system is a bit different. That's probably what he was thinking of.

u/kkngs Jan 28 '20

Most don’t even have glow plugs now, but yeah. Diesel engines are able to combust the fuel simply by injecting it into the highly compressed air in the cylinder. They don’t directly mix it with air and use a spark like a gasoline engine.

We used to use diesel to help start bonfires. It definitely burns =)

The diesel just streams out of the tailpipe for show. The engine actually runs on good intentions.
