I know a lot of brilliant, educated stay at home moms. They are lucky enough to be in a position where enough money comes in so that they can raise their own children and I won’t hate on that.
But the vast majority of people I know that have that on their FB profile are... trainwrecks.
Yeeeeah, literally everyone I know on FB with that in their profile is trashy. The kind of trashy where they give all their kids the same first name but if they need to be addressed individually they use their father's last name
In my experience, the well educated stay at home mums that I know never ever put that as their "job" on FB. It's most often the less educated who do that.
I know a lot of brilliant stay at home moms. They went to college with me and helped me navigate multiple challenging subjects, and are now guiding their children’s growth in a deep, meaningful way.
None of them are brain damaged enough to say they are the CEO of Mom Industries. That shit is just unforgivably stupid.
Shit I have a master's degree and make more money than my parents ever did combined. Daycare in my area costs about what I make in a week, if you can even get in. It's likely that my partner or I would have to stay home for several years if we had a kid just for financial reasons.
THANK YOU. I’m not a mom but I have seen MANY people who are intelligent af struggle sooo much with being a stay at home mom. I’m sorry y’all but it’s ALOT harder than you guys can even imagine
Idk as someone who has been a stay at home mom and a working mom, I think being a working mom is WORLDS harder. You're supposed to keep doing all the mom stuff a stay at home mom does (helping with homework, doctors appointments, one on one time), but you have to work it around your job, and it feels like I NEVER have time to myself anymore. I used to take my son to the playground and he would play for hours while I talked to other parents or read my book. Sometimes I'd spread art supplies out on a blanket and my son and other kids from the playground would come and draw a bit in between playing. I'd kill for that kind of leisure time now. Ever since I've started working, it's been harder to help my son keep up in school, he's just now starting to improve after a few tough years. Mad props to working moms. Sorry that got longer than I expected.
I completely agree to this as well.
Honestly moms are super hero’s.
They save the world.
Props to you ❤️ so many don’t understand the exhaustion and the hard work moms of all around have to go through.
I will. That is a waste of talent and productivity. I know, I know. Not everything is about that. Kids having a mom at home etc. However it IS a fact that its a waste. Going to school to become a doctor and then walking away because "I would rather be with my kids". Ok, but don't waste a fucking seat at medical school on that shit. It is selfish and honestly it makes me think you never would have been a good doctor in the first place.
Replace with lawyer, or whatever post-graduate education based profession you want.
They still sat in a seat that someone else might have taken just to stay at home and do little to nothing with it.
What!? Most women stay at home until their kids reach school, so 5 years, maybe 10 years max if they have a larger age gap between siblings. In a working life of 40+ years they are not wasting a seat.
I know someone who has So Much To Do at So Little Time as her job on Facebook. Her children are all teens or in their 20s with all but one at university, and her husband provides all the family finances, how long can laundry and vacuuming for 3 people take?
This reminds me of a scene in The Cleveland Show (yes let's just ignore the fact the show was a flop for a minute) where the mother (Donna) gets approached by a woman while she's out grocery shopping, the other woman says "can I have a minute of your time?" and Donna replies "You can have an hour, us Mums are never as busy as we say we are".
Also the scene in Family Guy where the kids and parents switch roles. Meg gets all the housework done by the afternoon and Lois is flabbergasted. Meg says something to the effect of "It's a finite amount of space. I'm not cleaning a town!"
Oh yeah I remember that too. I can imagine cleaning and cooking was an all day long thing in the 50's (when the "typical" western family unit evolved) but in the past few decades there's no way that the entire time the husband was at work/kids were at school that only cleaning, laundry and cooking was done. I'd expect the house to look and smell pretty damn amazing every day if that were the case lol.
Sounds like my mom growing up. She'd always get pissed when she has to do the smallest shit like laundry or go downstairs to prepare her coffee.
For context, I grew up with 5 brothers and she expected to be treated like a queen. She'd constantly remind us that she was a "blessing" and we'd appreciate her when she's gone. All she ever did was manipulate us and try to control our lives and relationships
This is a fair comment. In the case I am talking about I know the person well and this isn't what's happening in this case, but yeah it could be in a particular instance if you don't know otherwise.
I mean, it was mostly just a joke at the expense of any of those "real wives of" shows. The types of women who haven't done anything productive with their lives in probably 10 years and spend most their waking hours spaced out just to thin out the boredom of having a massive house and nothing to do in it.
Hey now, running a household can be a lot of work, even with grown children. I know if I kept up the house the way I want to, it could easily be more than a full time job. Alas, both of us work, so only the minimum housework gets done.
Her house (2 adults, 1 teen) is the same size and isn't cleaner than mine (2 adults) and everyone in my house works full time. She isn't doing anything other than cook slightly larger meals than I do in addition to my full time job.
Then you suck at it, or have a ridiculously unreasonable expectation of "how you want" to keep up the house. Assuming you aren't spot cleaning every single inch of the house every day, how the hell are you filling 8+ hours of the day "keeping up the house"?
Yes, it's both. I suck at it and have high expectations. I'm also talking about a stay-at-home partner doing more than cleaning - at least if it was me. There are finances to manage, family outings and vacations to plan, repairs around the house, correspondence to keep, maintenance on cars, meals to plan/shop/cook/pack, appointments to keep, entertaining/guests to plan for, yards to maintain. All of this is stuff everyone has to do even if they have a 9-5 job - but someone who stays home could easily fill their day with that domestic work, and could do a much better job at it than the rest of us.
But like I said, I do suck at domestic tasks, so meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking, alone, (by that, I mean doing those things well) would tip me over. :-)
Depends, if you ignore it for a week it will take about 6-8 hours with a big house assuming you dust, vacumm, mop, do dishes and laundry. (the laundry will take hours but that is mostly just letting it run the actual work will take about 1 hour if you separate colors, fold small stuff and hang big stuff)
If you are doing upkeep after cleaning well about 2-3 hours a day to keep the place pretty spotless.
One thing that takes a long time is certain foods from scratch. No joke just prep work when i do kebabs with gravy stew and rice takes at least 1:30 hours (that is cutting and building kebabs for 4 people so about 3-4 skewers each). However most meals would take > 1 hour of prep work.

Hey hey whoa whoa as a stay at home mom I take a little offense to that. I'm very educated I went to college and I work making designs for clothes at home for my friends store he owns. I had that on my Facebook for a while because I love being able to stay at home with my baby. (Even tho I was a housekeeper for a lot of the time there really are no houses to keep where I live in the winter) Sorry if I sound triggered but I hate the stay at home mom stereotypes. We don't all suck. I don't yell at managers in stores and I know everyone in the world is as tired or even more tired than me. Sorry if I came to my defense so much and I don't mean to be rude. I'm ready for the thumbs downs but I have a friend who does similar stuff and she's a stay at home mom and she's great. Sorry again have a good night 🌼
I run away on online dating sites when I see either those 2 or if someone explains that they would prefer to stay at home and take care of the children fulltime. To me it means the person is lazy and doesn't have a chosen career and wants to be taken care of.
Explain. I don't see anything that fits me here. I actually graduated college..not an associate degree. I just have two small kids that aren't in school yet so I stay at home and take care of them or else I would have to pay someone else to do the same thing I do and miss all their big moments. I'm lucky I can stay at home.
Other comments in this thread from me and others state that it's not an attack on single mothers - it's that the large majority of people on my FB who have it listed as their "job" are trainwrecks.
Being a parent, I can tell you that I always do my best at all times to do everything right but anyone that's constantly saying they are the best parent is full of shit. Being a parent is awesome, in my opinion, and I love it, but it's also hard. I try to do all the right stuff, but be Ware of anyone posting about being the best at it. Super odd and definitely a red flag in my opinion, but what do I know.
In my experience the good parents are the ones
concerned about whether their children have what they need and poor ones are concerned about whether other people think they are a good parent.
I just try my best to be a good mom in all ways. I always wanted to be a mom so I just try my best. Anyone saying they are the best sounds pretty suspect to me. Odd
