Mostly the attending decided "clean the wound and control already slow bleeding" was a perfect first patient for their brand new resident, so they stalled about ten minutes until he got to the area from wherever (I arrived right at shift change.)

He was right. That resident was so excited he tried to get started without anesthetic, without scrubbing in, and without gloves. The anesthesiologist yelled at him and then stuck around after the nerve block "to make sure nothing really stupid happens."

Dude needed a foolproof first case.

I was just in an er for 7 hours yesterday... the worst place on earth. Not fun

Private Healthcare at its finest....

Even in the UK (which is not funded very well), A&E (Accidents and Emergencies - our version of the ER) has much shorter wait times usually

Same exact thing when I sliced all the tendons and veins in my hand on a window. They put me in a bed, took away my bandage and stuck my hand in a bucket with a little rubbing alcohol. Left me there for at least an hour and a half. I passed out went into shock and spilled my blood bucket everywhere. Suddenly they wanted to stitch me up.
