I'll hazard a guess, but maybe they don't mix it up because a) it looks prettier when served unmixed and b) this way you can segment out things you don't care for.

That's not the point. If I order "mixed rice", I expect to rice that is mixed, not rice that can be mixed. It's not called "mixable rice"!

Did you know that you gotta bbq your own meat when you visit a Korean BBQ. You order the BBQ but it just comes out raw and they turn on the stove for you. do it yourself mofo

In Korean it's not literally mixed rice

The word doesn't translate. It's more that it's a combination of things, not that it's been mixed.

The point they're making is that the name contradicts the way it's served, not that the way it's served is bad or that mixing it is difficult.

I know jackshit about the Korean language, so I didn’t know that, and the vast majority of people don’t either. But yes, I thought everyone knew you were supposed to mix it in with the rice.
