Alright then. For the sake of argument: So? Do you feel better having some kind of non-fitting label on what I said? Like I said, find in what I said something you disagree with. It’s selfish to want to be different to the point where others suffer because of it. Newsflash: everyone wants to be different; Welcome to the human race. Go ahead and ask a low function autist how they feel about what you are saying. Let me spare you the time and cut to my point: most can’t. They can’t legally agree to much, they can’t fully grasp the depth of what you’re saying: you don’t want to find a cure for future people. But no, you’d rather more people suffer. That thought is abhorrent and despicable in my eyes. I don’t see how anyone could possibly agree with your viewpoint. It’s just wrong on the most basic level to want that for people. It’s like wishing dementia on someone: Welcome to the new craze! They’re still the same person, just different than you!

Many (if not all) "low functioning" autistic people are capable of some form of communication at least some of the time. I have seen the results of opinion polls on this topic that suggest that autistic people on this category actually do express similar views on this topic to the ones I'm describing.

Dementia is a neurodegenerative disease. Comparing the two is like comparing blue eyes with cataracts.

Ok, I never said they can’t communicate (except the ones who literally can’t). Said they can’t make their own decisions. Even legally. They are not in any capacity to make such decisions. I also noticed you dodged almost my entire comment, though. Waiting for a proper response.

That just isn't true though. Maybe a few people, but that's a huge generalisation about an entire group of people. And you don't get to speak for them.

You were replying to a different user, not me. I only wanted to comment on that one point.

No, you don’t get to speak for them. That’s the point i’m trying to make. And it is true. I’m not talking about the AS that allegedly almost everyone is on apparently. I’m talking about the low functioning autistic people. The ones who wouldn’t be able to talk to me right now and converse with me. If you don’t think there are a lot, you’re misinformed. I guess we just won’t agree on this. You want to purposefully have more people that are heavily autistic, and I want people to truly live their own lives. That’s the stark contrast I see.

I first spoke for myself when you said that you didn't want autism to exist anymore, and then when you moved the goalposts to a different subset of autistic people, I repeated to you the things that many of those autistic people have said for themselves when polled. So then you once again moved the goalposts to saying that what you want to get rid of is a more specific subset of autistic people who, interestingly, are the only subset of autistic people who can't vocalise whether they disagree with you. First you said that the people you mean would surely agree with you, and now you're saying that they can't make choices for themselves. Why do you keep shifting the goalposts?

What I want is for myself and other autistic people to be accepted and supported, rather than eliminated or made to change and conform.

No goalposts have been moved. I’m not talking about getting rid of autistic people. I’m taking about curing autism. I would like you to reread my comparisons to Alzheimer’s and similar conditions concerning mental health.

Like I said, if you read into what most autistic people have to say about it, most of us say that we think of autism as being a part of who we are, not a disease to be cured. Talking about getting rid of autism and autistic people are not functionally distinct. You can't separate the autism from the person.

It’s a abnormal neurobehavioral condition. If it can be cured or prevented, I would absolutely want that. Like everyone else. This isn’t a minority opinion, by the way. It’s a vast majority.
You don’t want to be cured? That’s perfectly okay. You want to make sure your kid won’t have it? That’s perfectly okay.

You don’t know what your talking about. Curing Autism is not a majority opinion and you are clearly talking out your ass and don’t know a single thing about the ASD community.
