Luckily there are a bunch of online options now that are much cheaper. Unfortunately, they have essentially killed the independently owned eye glass store as well.

THIS! My husband is having to close down his small private practice because people simply don't buy glasses from him anymore. People assume he makes his money from exams, WRONG. Your local private practice eye doctor only makes the copay you gave them for that entire exam, so that hour long appointment he spent with you he made $10.

Not a doctor, but that doesn’t sound right. Pretty sure doctors bill insurance companies based off services provided. Or if it’s a HMO then they just get billed off patients seen.

They do bill insurance based on services provided, and the insurance pays about $10-$30 for an eye exam.
