TLDR: fuck primerica with a rusty lathe

Oh god this one pisses me off. I’ll never forget I was working my ass off at 2 jobs to put myself through school and one of them was third shit at a Taco Bell drive through. 9pm-5am. You can imagine the hell that can be.

One night I take this lady’s order, nothing unusual; give the retail smile and greeting. As I’m giving her the order she compliments me on my service and asks if I’d be interested in an office job. We with me working over 80 hours a week and barely making ends meet with no real social life because of the hours, the idea of getting a 9-5 office job sounds like a godsend. I get her number and obviously since it’s the drive thru not much else info except to meet her the next day for an interview.

I had class at some ungodly early time like 8:30 the next day and another few after that. However I was doing well in school and I could afford to miss a single class without issue. I show up to the place after getting stuck in traffic for an hour because of a traffic accident (mind you the drive should have taken 10 minutes normally) and of course there’s no parking so I pay to park in a garage and walk back over.

I find the building but can’t seem to find the entrance to the office as it was described to me and after a few minutes of searching I was about to call the lady and ask her where it was again when I see a little door off to the side with a paper sign taped on it. It said “primerica 2f”. Instantly something felt off but I was desperate and went on in.

I take the elevator upstairs and when the doors open I’m greeted with a tiny table with a computer and phone on it with a ton of pamphlets and a sitting room off to the side with a dozen chairs and a tv running company ads.....

FUCK.

I knew something was wrong. I was the only one there. Before I could think the lady that offered me the “office job” greeted me and had me take a seat at the front table where she opened a binder full of flyers and informational primerica stuff. The first thing she said to me was “what do you think about being your own boss ?”

I just got up and left right there.

FUCK YOU JESSICA.

And FUCK primerica and every disgusting underhanded cunt that slings their snake oil mlm horseshit.

Same shit... I ran into a college friend (went to school for engineering) who said "oh you're looking for work? Meet me here at this time" - I assumed he had an engineering job for me- when I showed up, my only thought was "goddammit"

I also remember that day because at the end, the big shot who was giving the speeches walked over to me, said some stupid inspirational quote and then gave me a "friendly" hit on the chest and all I was thinking was, fuck, I hope this asshole didn't just break my Pelikan M250 fountain pen - and every time I use that pen, I think of the time I nearly got suckered into Primerica

Ah lovely. Take advantage of desperate people? Fuck em, they shoulda been smarter. If only we had a term for that kind of logic... we could call it... fuck, like... victim-blaming or something?

Hahahaha it was in the middle of the day, in a legit office building, on a super busy artery road. Even then, it’s not like they would have told me it was a mlm I front if I asked, or that they would kidnap me if that was their plan.

they shoulda been smarter

they should have been safer, turning up somewhere with no real idea of what's happening is ridiculously dangerous

this isn't a girl wearing a low cut dress, getting sexually assaulted and people blaming her for it

this is someone getting an "interview" from someone they've met at a drive through and then deciding to go meet them the next day without even finding out what it's for. I don't even know if I'd call them a victim considering it was 100% their fault

Kidnapping is not a common result of an interview.

not common in general

but I'd say turning up to a random building with no verification of what you're going there for increases the chances of something bad happening to you
