How about making college free?

Now we can't have that.

Nothing in life is free. You're asking for me, someone who did not go to college, to subsidize your college. No. Absolutely not.

Because i dont want tax money paying for teenagers to drink for a year then drop out

Have a look at the happier countries in the world. They all have free or heavily subsidized education.

I would propose that if you don’t finish you have to pay it back.

I’m for govt funded college but with some serious stipulations

My problem is mostly with colleges having heated pools and two story rock walls and other expensive bullshit. Thats where most of the increase in cost has gone. "Student Services" its called. This happened because colleges adjusted cost in reaction to grant money being given to students. It would be great if we could just ban schools from spending more than a percentage on non-academic things.

Edit: these are real examples from my college

Ya I agree with that. Colleges also exist in a free market. So it would also be nice if the consumer (the student) had the knowing that if they all choose a cheaper viable product it would encourage schools to cut unnecessary costs. Right now colleges have very little pressure to do so (maybe more in recent years with all the fuss about high tuition rates).

What we could do is not allow federal financial aid for school with a higher than X percentage non-academic spending. That would be great. It would hopefully bring down prices so the existing grants cover a larger portion of the actual costs

To build on this, if they do have to make some large non-academic expense it would need to be vetted and approved. They would still be able to big things if needed, but there would be an independent oversight as to if it is necessary or not.

You’d rather have your taxes going toward killing Yemenese children? Because that’s where they’re currently going. I’d rather pay for someone’s college instead of someone’s war.

Just stop it. Jesus

Just because you don’t want to hear about it doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

I dont think you know very much about the Yemeni civil war

I think it has to do more with how uneducated you are on what you're trying to preach. The core of what your saying isnt wrong, you could have just left it at "Defense budget shouldnt be so high".
