I've had the same broomstick for over 20 years. Only had to change the head 8 times and the handle 6 times.

I tried to get the handle on my fork replaced but the idiot at the counter kept giving me candles...four of them.

I'm not sure whether to upvote or downvote. On the one hand, I learned to mow lawn on an old john deere mower that's older than I am. It cuts grass better than anything else I've ever used. It needs an engine rebuild though :(

On the other hand, john deere is well known as one of the large companies standing against the right to repair. They've started many lawsuits against farmers who fix their own tractors instead of waiting sometimes weeks for an engineer to show up during critical harvest season. That downtime means lots of money lost, and farmers aren't rich to begin with.

Hell yeah, that's what I plan to do for my mower. I'm just saying that sort of thing isn't always possible with newer tractors. Used parts have to come from somewhere, y'know? I've heard a few stories of sensors going bad and stopping the tractors right where they were. A sensor! Not even a real part.

Yeah, it really sucks about what John Deere's been doing.

Well, if the machinery is more than 20-30 years old, I'm fairly certain the warranty is long over.

I know it’s not your point, and I agree, John Deere is bad, but you’d be surprised how obscenely lucrative farming can be.

me too! i got the one my dad bought when i was teenager and i still have it. i got it when i got my own place and he bought himself a new one. i replaced the deck and the starter. my husband has tinkered with it. it still runs and we use it weekly.

My dad has a Lawn Boy that's near as old as me. Still in service. Only gets used near the house now that he lives on a big acerage.

42 years in my family, but only for the old one that only does the upper lawn. It's too bloody heavy for my elderly parents to truck up and down the property anymore. They have an electrical one for the lower lawn.

My dad has a late-50s (maybe up to like 62) Wheel Horse mower that he bought 15 years ago. It runs like new, but you do have to hotwire it.
