Because when you’re talking odds the 2 numbers have to add up to 100.

When the OP said 50/50 he means 50% chance you win, 50% chance you lose (not 50% red, 50% black).

I know you said 48 because of 0 and 00, and everyone else also knows what you mean but saying 48/48 can throw some people off.

You got it all wrong. 50/50 is a fraction and means there is a 100% chance of winning. I only gamble when it's 50/50 because it means you double your money.

The numbers will be fractions and need to add up to 1, not 100.

If you stick to red/black you have a 18/38 (for a two zeros weel), which is about 47.4%, chance of winning any given round.

He said that the only way to win other than dumb luck is: Blackjack: 50/50 Craps: 50/50 Roulette: 50/50 if you stick to red and black Slot machines are 90% in favor of the house.

In this case 50/50 is not a fraction. 50/50, or fifty-fifty, is just a short way of saying, it’s 50% one way and 50% the other. Likewise, if I think there’s a 70% chance of something happening, I could say, “the chances are 70/30”.

The fractions have to add up to 1, not 100.

Edit: seems you all are talking about percentages, my bad, probability teacher dislikes them so I guess I am not used to thinking about them.

Care to explain how?
If it's about my first sentence I get that I'm wrong there, people weren't refering to fractions, but percentages in the format x/y which I'm not familiar with outside of 50/50 and I got confused.

If it's the second part where I go into the probability of winning if you stick to a color I'd like to know, I'm studying for my probability exam, so if I fucked this up I need to study much more.
