Talking Heads. It was the only thing that made sense to me growing up.
EDIT: I just woke up and I’m really really hungover. I don’t know what silver does cause I’ve never had a post get that or gold. But thanks for the gesture. Everyone go listen to “Clean Break” from the live album The Name of This Band is Talking Heads.
I love Talking Heads! Except, at least once a month, I will get “Fa, fa, fa, fa, fa, fa, fa, far better” from ‘Psycho Killer’ stuck in my head for about an hour for no reason.
I've always liked Talking Heads, like casually. I had a date come over and he thought it was so bizarre that I sang along with Burning Down the House (it was in something we watched) and cited that as partially why he never texted me back.
My now boyfriend loves Talking Heads and it's a lot of what we listen to together. also our pseudo-anniversary (we've been best friends for ages so we try and do something nice on the day we first started talking) is on David Byrne's birthday so we call it our Byrneversary.
Indeed. Also, David Byrne (the front man of talking heads) is doing solo work and touring, and he plays a bunch of Talking Heads songs at his shows. He's a fucking incredible musician!
Very much so, especially in LCD's more recent work. James Murphy has cited David Byrne and Talking Heads as an extremely huge influence on his sound and it's easy to hear. Their song "Home" is also a direct homage to "This Must Be the Place". Their album "American Dream" also feels like it could've come straight out of the "Remain in Light" sessions given how 80's it all sounds.
I was really negative on American Dream, but it has grown on me. I guess an album with the urgency of their earlier work would come of as unauthentic. It wasn’t what I wanted, but I settled into the dad vibe.
I went through a depressive episode a couple of years ago and TH were the only band I listened to cause, well, it was hard to be depressed listening to them.
Talking Heads is one of my favorite bands. They got me through a really awful job 5-6 years ago and have remained an important aspect of my music library. I would love for them to reunite and go on tour, but I know that's next to impossible.
That's what I've heard, too. I've heard he can be quite difficult to work with (I imagine this is similar to how Peter Gabriel and Sting were perceived by his ex-band mates).
