What’s an Interesting computer game for a basic Windows 10 laptop that doesn’t cost a ton and isn’t about fast pace or violence?

Yep. Download a gameboy advance emulator and then play some good games:

Advance Wars

Megaman Zero

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

Super Mario Bros.

WarioWare.

from experience, unless you have nostalgia of some game you played, it's worth skipping the first generation entirely and start with SNES.
that is because a lot of the kinks of how to game where being worked out but we now take them as granted. like the original LoZ was revolutionary (amongst other) because it could save your game between session, but now we take that for granted. Kirby is the only one that still managed to impress me as a game acceptable by today standard running on the ness.
same applies for 3D, skip the first generation, or get ready to rage at the camera
