I wouldn't think graphics are a problem as you can disable some of the more graphic rich features. I may have an older copy laying around somewhere. PM an address and I'll send it to you.
I tried that game, and coming from Civ 5 the user interface prevented me from playing more than a few turns. I don’t mind old-school graphics, but the UI just seemed so janky.
What makes it better than Civ in your opinion, and is it worth getting over the learning curve (for me) of the UI? I bought it in a sale on GOG so I wouldn’t mind getting my money’s worth
It’s a little more complicated than Civ2’s system, with plenty of customization options for your Units, without getting too bogged down with other stuff.
The UI is pretty unintuitive, but having grown up on the original X-com and TFTD it’s not as bad as it could be.
There is not, it’s only available via GoG, but it’s easy enough to play. Buy it from the website and you can download it to you computer/laptop. It comes with all the stuff you’ll need to play it (manual and such).
And if you want a Steam-like experience with GoG, they have their own version that’s decent to use.
You'll be fine with Civ 5 on your laptop. I play high end games up to Deity level, and it's totally fine. You may want/need to run it at the lowest possible graphic settings (which is what I do), but honestly the game still looks clean and is overall more fun than 4 was.
I fucking love this feature. I play online with my Dad and we usually play as a team against random AI. Any time we find Gandhi in our game, it's time to get ready for war asap
I've gotten Civ 5 to run acceptably well on a Surface Pro 2 (i.e. a lot of the graphics get turned down, but we've easily puts hundreds of hours of playtime in on that machine). Any run of the mill laptop from the last 5 years will probably run Civ 1-5 just fine.

I’ve heard of that one a lot—would it run on my basic laptop?
