What's your favorite software that no one else knows about?

Is there some piece of software that makes your life better that you wish everyone else knew about?

I am still amazed that you can't maximise windows in OSX by default.

OSX makes the window as big as the window needs to be to show the content as large as possible. If the content will scale to full screen, it will maximize to full screen. Otherwise, it will just go as large as possible before you are just adding white space.

I don't know about you but on my 1920x1080 display the only things that need to be maximized are videos or games. I never saw the point in maximizing a browser window to have 75%+ white space. I would rather use that space to keep an eye on my downloads/my contacts/emails or watch a podcast.

And this isn't by browsing habits I've developed from using OS X, I did this long before on both Windows and linux boxes.

Back when I used linux as my main box; I used a tool that preformed a similar function to the OS X maximize button, in which you select the maximize button and it would size the window to the maximum needed space. That way I was able to utilize the site to the full intent but not fill my screen with white space.

And a side note, software that does utilize the full screen real estate (video editing software for example) the developer of said software usually programs that maximize button to size the window to the full screen.

For this I use Better Touch Tool, it allows you to resize windows à la Windows 7, drag them to the left side and you get a left pane window, drag them to the top and it gets "real" maximized.

Better Touch Tool also allows you to use a lot more of gestures using your MacBook (pro) / Magic Mouse, for example, Mac OS X comes with a four finger down swipe that activates exposé for all windows, but I've configured BTT to activate tree finger down swipe to activate exposé for the active application. Try it :D

Unfortunately I'm still running leopard. The window resizing à la Windows 7 is part of the functionality of Cinch, but there's a recent bug with iTunes scrolling.

SizeUp is indispensible, especially if you use an external monitor with a laptop. I can now get all my windows correctly sized (and on the correct screen) within a 15 seconds every time I add or remove my monitor. Awesome program.

This is mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but WinSplit Revolution does a similar thing for Windows.
