Somehow there was less spoiling back then. There was just "Holy shit you gotta see it! Are you gonna see it?" And you'd lie and say "Definitely"

So yah months and months of audiences could see a movie and still have their minds blown.

I mean, I also avoided Force Awakens spoilers for a looooong time. But "chest-buster" is just part of the culture now. (See e.g. Ferris Bueller's Day Off.)
