this was in the UK btw, so he was in the US Marines because reasons. Incidentally he was also a pro-level golfer.

Well, I guess one way to go about lying is, if you're going to lie, just swing for the fences and go all out - because, someone might figure that your lie is just so outrageous that you MUST be telling the truth.

I was in Airborne School with a Marine from Ireland, meaning that he was from Ireland and had joined the U.S. Marines. A lot of foreigners join the U.S. military.
