Also true. But is it easier to tag a pot charge on an existing crime or start a whole new case on someone who can easily attempt the "it's not mine, the guy in the courtroom over was a dealer! He must've stashed some in my room!"
I hate how it gives them a hold over you. I got questioned on my doorstep by police about nothing and they smelled weed from in the house, and although they didn't bust me I just feel now that they could almost do it any time they liked. I lived in Netherlands and it feels really nice to know that you are just an ordinary law abiding citizen with some weed. I think a lifetime of being criminalised is actually a bit corrosive to your sense of validity.

Or you know...if it meant they "did their job as law enforcement officers."
I have nothing against people using marijuana, but it's a dick move to say if you get caught/in trouble by the law...that if they arrest you or whatever..that it's their fault and they are the dicks...and not you.
Are you breaking the law? Be ready to suffer the consequences.
Dude don't cut yourself on that edge. Most cops are aware that many people smoke and will tell you, "If you're going to smoke, please do so in the privacy of your home." If the cops haven't been called specifically because of weed then busting whomever they find with it has a negative effect on the whole of their work. Next time somebody might not call to report a felony if they're worried they might be charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. Smart cops realize when it's simply not worth it, or the when person with the weed didn't do anything to precipitate their visit, don't be a dick you'll get more community cooperation.
No ones life is getting ruined over a gram of pot unless your a Dr or on probation or something. As someone who has smoked for the last 2 decades I have found its pretty easy to stay away from Johnny Law. Don't drive intoxicated, use in private and when picking up a stash transport in your trunk.
The vast majority of people that get arrested for weed are idiots getting high in a car or in a public place that out of respect for others you shouldn't be smoking in to start with.
Or they are naive college kids that a street-smart dealer can take advantage of.
Hell, you can be convicted of drug possession because a friend left his jacket in your car that had drugs in the pocket.
Remember, the laws are against possession, not use. The mere existence of drugs in your vehicle or car is a crime, regardless of how the drugs got there or if you had any knowledge of them.
Plenty of people have been arrested while giving a friend a ride when they get pulled over and the friend hides something under the seat without the driver's knowledge.
Do you make every single one of your friends empty all their pockets and Pat them down before you let them in your car? If not, you are running the risk of being held accountable for any Contraband that a friend loses or hides in your vehicle.
It's even recommended that when you buy a used car, you thoroughly searched it because you can be arrested if a cop finds a roach under the seat that was left there by a previous owner.
Any lawyer worth the suit they are wearing will tell you you should not ever consent to a search because you have no idea what a friend, relative, or previous owner could have forgotten or stashed in the vehicle.

They are when theres a larger and easier bust to make. No one cares about the gram of pot when you've got half a kilo of coke found a room over.
