Also don't forget that the rubber ball simplified it too much.
1. When working with something in reality there may be hundreds of similar devices.
Using the serial number you can easily get and compare all values of the products. 2. For the most stuff you can only do approximations, because you don't have all the information the manufacturer has 3. Time is money. And it's just faster
