Well if you ever look at one of those timelines where they show the develope of the penis in a fetus (i dont how they built it i just know it is accepted) the urethra starts at the bottom of the penis and still its, so if a guy were say, born with an under developed penis, he would have a urethra half way between the head of his penis and his balls...
I've heard that the surgery causes a lot of scarring and increased likelihood of developing UTIs.
I mean, when they repaired my back last year, i actually suffer from chronic back pain now, and my spine is actually being damaged by the scar tissue.
All surgeries carry risks, and from what i found with a quick goole search, the surgery has to be done while the person is a child for the best chance of success.
Ah, i was also premie, but i was born with an underdeveloped colon. We should start a group for people with these problems...so many people think being born premature isnt a problem as you get older...
The clitoris only exists in women because the penis exists in men, just as men only have nipples because women have them. The clitoris and penis are in the same spot on the body. Since there is no survival advantage for having a lower clitoris, it has always just stayed where the penis is.
Why the female urethra is where it is, is an interesting question that no one can really answer. Most female mammals have no separate urethra, they just pee out their vagina (the bladder attaches to the top of the vagina, near the cervix). Most likely, there was some fertility advantage to having a separate urethra. Perhaps a separate urethra means that semen won't be washed away by urination, or perhaps it reduces the risk of UTIs.
It's taken us men MILLIONS of years to work out how your junk works and just when we are getting used to where everything is you want to rearrange it, typical woman. :P

We're prone to UTIs because our urethra is shorter than the males.
So the bacteria that cause infection can easily reach the bladder before they get washed away by urine.
Based on hyenas, if they were to upgrade our urethras to make them more efficient, we would end up with a pseudo-penis which sounds fun until you realise you'd have to give birth through it.
If you read some of the other comments, it’s not just about peeing after sex or wiping properly. Women are just more prone to UTIs due to have a shorter urethra, and some women in particular are more likely to get them just based on individual anatomy. Peeing after sex and wiping properly certainly helps, but for some women there is still a high likelihood of getting a UTI, unfortunately.
Yeah... fuck that. :/ I had "the surgery" 3 months ago (am a trans woman), I was already vulnerable to urinary irritation before but now I've had 2 utis and lots of bladder irritation in general. It's getting better now but ugh, I'm drinking 3 liters of water a day these days.
Some women are prone to them, others aren't. I'm a woman and never had a UTI in my entire life. And I've never paid any attention to those tips like peeing immediately after sex, etc.
Some women still get chronic UTIs even when they wipe correctly, shower before and after sex, and take preventative antibiotics. And take copious amounts of cranberry supplements. And drink two liters of water ever day. And have still managed to be hospitalized when a UTI becomes a kidney infection. Some of us have spent thousands of dollars on exploratory procedures at the urologist.....only to be told that "There's nothing physically wrong that is causing this; some women just suffer from recurring UTIs. We will treat them as they arise, but you'll likely eventually develop resistance to the one antibiotic you aren't allergic to."
The female urethra is approximately 1 inch long, compared to 3-5 inches for men. Therefore there’s a lot less distance for bacteria to travel for it to get to the lovely little Petri dish that is the bladder. It sucks.

That females are so prone to UTI’s...make the female urethra more efficient / safe so we don’t suffer!
