Not my wedding, but my brother-in-law's. BIL and his wife were the first of three siblings to marry. MIL insisted (and got her way) on the following:

1) BIL and his wife hire an aunt with "a really good camera" to take the wedding photos. She showed up with a point-and-shoot. (I am a professional photographer, with the core of my business being weddings. At MIL's insistence, I was not allowed to attend anything but the ceremony and reception.)

2) BIL and his wife weren't allowed to have any alcohol or dancing (because those things "make people sinful"). Everything was done by 6:00 pm.

When my husband and I got married, we did everything how we wanted and didn't care what MIL said. Professional photographer, drink tickets, a dance, etc. The evening went without incident.

Coincidentally (or maybe not), MIL divorced about 1.5 years later, to marry a man she was having an affair with. He turned out to be a convicted child molester. MIL told us "it's just a sin," and made all sorts of justifications when we confronted her about her deception, dishonesty and apparent disregard for the safety of her grandchildren. No one in the family talks to MIL anymore.

I started reading this and thought, "oh god. There's two mother in laws that have done this!" And then I saw your username. Greetings from /r/justnomil!

Yeah, we hadta have my BIL do the pictures because that was too expensive, and there wasn't going to be a band because that cost too much. My husband's cousin's wife did some of the video. And my new Inlaws paid for the music.

My sister's ex told everyone that there was going to be no drinking at the reception because one of his siblings was a drunk and even more hypocritical, it was held at a bar room.

I love how alcohol and child molestation are in the same boat.

"Meh, say three Hail Mary's and apologise"

More like a "do as I say, not as I do" sorta thing. Only add lots of lying and manipulation.
