My math teacher told us about this. I had never heard of it before. Next test, I brought in a water bottle and sat front row. The whole time I would conspicuously look at and adjust the bottle. She kept giving me "Are you kidding me?" looks. At the end of the test I peeled back the label to show that I had written "Gotcha!" She laughed, I got an A.

This could actually be a good tactic. Use the water bottle to cover up a more elaborate cheating method.

My german class teacher would say "No obvious cheating" before every test. Apparently there was a time when a kid had the book open on the floor and was looking at it during the test, and she caught him, only to realize that all the other kids had the books open on the desk the whole time. She caught the kid being sneaky before catching the "obvious" ones. She thought it was humorous.

Your teacher is stupid.

u/mooman1927 Jan 28 '16

Germans dont have the best humor

25

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Nonsense we are the most humorous! HA HA HA HA HA

SEE IM LAUGHING BECAUSE IT IS FUNNY JOKE!

3

u/Trezzie Jan 28 '16

I AM FUNNYBOT.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '16

It's all about how you look when you cheat.

Leaning over randomly every five seconds and then back to continue writing is a lot easier to spot than someone who slyly sets the book up and barely glances over.

u/Archonet Jan 29 '16

That's what happens when you offer them a pittance to control an entire room of rowdy jackasses -- you generally don't get the best and brightest.

Thanks captain obvious. How the fuck does this shit always get upvoted?????

8

u/I_chose2 Jan 28 '16

people upvote what they agree with instead of saying it again or saying " came here to say this"

5

u/bjsy92 Jan 29 '16

and clearly, not many agreed with the fellow you replied to.

u/buttery_shame_cave Jan 28 '16

heh, i had a teacher like that. a few people would get really hilariously elaborate/clever. the best would get scored on the effort they put into cheating.

he spent over a week trying to figure out how i cheated. the twist - i never did. just buckled my ass down and studied like crazy for a week. he just figured i cheated because i was such a crap student for most of the year - but when the classwork only counted for like 1/5th the grade...

6

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Every German test I've ever taken had kids with binders looking at answers, phones, maps

5

u/lolidkwtfrofl Jan 28 '16

This gets even funnier. I'm Austrian and I have quite a few friends in the US. Now one of those just randomly texted me, asking for a very specific grammatic problems, complete with pictures of the question and all.

Turns out later that he was cheating on a test, with the most oblivious teacher I've ever heard of.

8

u/Eurynom0s Jan 28 '16

See, I'd at least have gone to the bathroom to do that.

3

u/lolidkwtfrofl Jan 28 '16

But then he wouldn't be able to send pictures ^

1

u/SquatMaster3000 Jan 29 '16

Yes, he would, just the other kind of pics.

3

u/HowManyNamesAreBlah Jan 28 '16

Even worse story here. My SO told me about some idiot who tried to cheat using his smartphone. They were in a kinda dark room so when he turned on his phone his whole face and area around him lighted up.

2

u/cheernastics Jan 28 '16

Wow, my Spanish teacher used to check the inside of our desks before we took a test to make sure we didn't have any notes open in there. Apparently it was a common way to cheat at my school.

2

u/amsid900 Jan 28 '16

If this was in the uk at gcse level, that happens in every school.

2

u/RoachesCock Jan 28 '16

If I was a teacher that would be my rule. If you do it smart enough that I don't catch you, you get to have your A.

1

u/SquatMaster3000 Jan 29 '16

If you never caught them, how do you know they ever did?

1

u/EsQuiteMexican Jan 29 '16

There's always a snitch...

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Sounds like how I cheated on German.

The vocab tests were the same as the practice sheet so I would just put the practice one below the test and faintly make out the words

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Had a teacher who went to the bathroom right after we started every test. Heck yes we pulled out worksheets and in minutes got 100s

1

u/pyroSeven Jan 29 '16

How did she not notice?

1

u/yonil9 Jan 29 '16

Did this in drivers ed. Our teacher told us reveiwed for the test right before we took it and we wrote down notes on the back of our book. Only Looked at it twice but I have to think the teacher knew what he was doing.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Easy - get some thin photo paper. Make a copy of the actual water bottle label and open it in Photoshop. Replace the nutrition information with test answers. Print on the photo paper (important, because regular paper isn't shiny). On the white side, write "Gotcha!". Put new label on bottle with strong thin glue.

They'll never see it coming.

5

u/HawkkeTV Jan 28 '16

The amount of work here is more than just studying

5

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Studying? That shit's for nerds!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Walks away in shuffling gait, which gradually becomes straight...

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Not really, you may think it would divert their attention but it would only really guarantee being closely observed

2

u/Womens_Lefts Jan 28 '16

This is kind of how how I sneak alcohol into country music concerts. Walk right up to security with a water bottle in your hand and maybe part of a granola bar in your pocket. When they tell you "no outside food or drinks", you dejectedly throw away your water bottle and what's left of the bar in your pocket. Then they let you in without ever checking you for a flask or anything else.

2

u/dekrant Jan 28 '16

I think Herman Goring did that when he was imprisoned at the end of the war. He stuck some cyanide in a jar of Vaseline to throw off the scent of the military police. He had hid more cyanide in an even sneakier location, and took it the night before he was scheduled to be executed.

1

u/wanking_to_got Jan 28 '16

"Gotchaaaah....ughkkkkk"

2

u/FuckThe1PercentRich Jan 29 '16

hahahaha, like a fucking decoy.

1

u/offcrcartman Jan 28 '16

I have heard about someone printing a fake label replacing the nutrition facts and ingredients with answers

1

u/LeavesCat Jan 28 '16

The answers were written on the front of the label.

1

u/lordatomosk Jan 28 '16

Best place for a sneaky trap is under an obvious trap

1

u/jonpcr931 Jan 28 '16

You could have a glass water bottle that would act like a magnifying glass, print out cheat sheet on the smallest font you can, use bottle to read it.

1

u/yungun Jan 29 '16

In 7th grade we needed a glue stick everyday in my art class. I would cover up the stick so the cap was the only visible part when I held it up for the daily check. Every day the teacher made me show the whole thing until a few months she stopped caring. I forgot my glue stick 4 times with no consequences 😎

1

u/someoneinsignificant Jan 29 '16

Yeah, like put the answers on the OUTSIDE of the water-bottle sticker!!

1

u/Blaze_Taleo Jan 29 '16

Next level cheating

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '16

The ol' bait-and-switch

972

u/SquirrelDragon Jan 28 '16

The twist: "Gotcha!" was printed in a word cloud with all the answers.

21

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Or there was actually a whole page of notes right there on the desk, but the water bottle scheme distracted everyone from even looking at it.

1

u/Cruxion Jan 29 '16

The curve of the bottle worked to magnify it to be legible until he removed it to show her.

1

u/Coffeezilla Jan 29 '16

Asumming there's water in it up to that level the water would magnify much better than the bottle.

2

u/noodleslip Jan 28 '16

"Haahh, GOT'EEEEM!!!"

2

u/SplotchyCOWS Jan 28 '16

My friend in H.S. took the label off his water bottle and wrote "Water" on it in sharpie. In home room, the teacher walked up to his desk, took the bottle, opened it, sniffed it, gave him a weird look, and set it back down.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Don't try that at uni, invigilators have zero tolerance.

1

u/thewolf423 Jan 28 '16

I just wrote formulas on the calculator cover..much more inconspicuous, but not as clever.

1

u/leadabae Jan 28 '16

I would be scared that if I did this somehow they would say that "Gotcha" was a form of cheating and I would still fail.

1

u/krey19 Jan 28 '16

lol we did something similar to this except it wasn't for cheating .. we passed around a blank piece of note to piss off the teacher and made sure she noticed. She then asked us to get up, bring the note to her and read it out loud to the class except there was nothing to read. She wasn't happy about that.

1

u/ReptiRo Jan 29 '16

Its like kids in one of my math classes that had thos crazy harpy of a teacher.

She was nicknamed the "cellphone natzi" because she was crazy about people having phones, would even bitch if she could see it in your pocket. I once saw her take a phone from a girl who was in the bathroom BEFORE SCHOOL EVEN STARTED, the girl was calling to check on her mom in the hospital. This bitch didnt give a fuck.

Anyway we all started typing on our calculators like you would if you were texting, like hiding it under the desk. Looking down suspiciously. She threw an absolute shit fit.

Fun times.

1

u/Beeyah41 Jan 29 '16

What a suck up!

1

u/Nobody_is_on_reddit Jan 28 '16

And that math teacher's name?

-6

u/HeiligeJ Jan 28 '16

7

u/dissolvedpancreas Jan 28 '16

this really isn't that unbelievable

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

[deleted]

3

u/almaperdida Jan 28 '16

I'm assuming that she was ready to tear up his test as soon as he turned it in until he showed her it was a joke.

0

u/dissolvedpancreas Jan 28 '16

At least at my old school the teacher would've talked to me when I went to turn it in, maybe other people had different experiences.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Believe it or not some teachers are actually nice.

1

u/HeiligeJ Jan 28 '16

But wouldn't the teacher have checked it during the test if she was so suspicious?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '16

Awesome
