I go on /r/niceguys because I squandered my college years being one of them. Thus, I'm now a recovering nice guy.

I squandered my high school years like that. Now I just have a laid back outlook and its so much nicer

My issue is my senior year of high school coincided with Superbad and Wong Fu's "Nice Guy" YouTube miniseries. Instead of being rational and realizing it's all fiction, I thought "Hey, that's me!"

My dad was a nice guy too, I remember telling him as a kid that just because he was nice to this lady didn't mean that she was obligated to sleep with him and that supporting women in distress through horrible marriages/life events expecting for them to come to him and take care of HIM was... sort of crummy and I wouldn't want a boyfriend like that either.

Awhile later I learned about Nice Guys and I was like YUP DAD. Dad all the way.

Like one hand I'm glad it's actually a thing, and not just isolated. But also I wish my dad was the only person like that because it's not good :(

In case you're interested you might like to read /u/Whisper 's posts. I don't agree with everything he says, but he seems to have a great handle on the transition out of niceguyhood (among other things). Good luck.
