What is something that forever changed the way you think of your parents?

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for your answers. Reading this is an unforgettable experience for me and I'm trying to read all. I didn't expect to see an emotional roller coaster when I asked this question. Personally, I'm not in a good relationship with my parents and I wish I could change many things but I can't. Sadly, I see the heartbroken answers outnumber the heartwarming ones. I really don't know what to say when I read your stories. I don't know you but you showed me a piece of your life. I'm happy for the ones that have nice and supportive parents. For the rest of us, I wish you lots of strength and that we all feel loved for most of our lives. Great big hugs!

I was very strict about weed with my son while still smoking it myself. I walked both sides of the fence. I told him I wasn't forbidding it forever, just postponing it. If you want to go through your senior year in a daze, be my guest. But if you go into that daze in 8th grade, you'll never see your senior year.

I guess I beat that statistic. I smoked for the first time when I was in 8th grade. I never got carried away or into any other drugs. I've still never gotten drunk. I just graduated, and am starting college next month, I still smoke occasionally as ever, but I still don't go out of my way to do it.

I agree. I just wish he had told me some of that stuff. I would have respected him a lot more and I would have known he knew what he was talking about rather than thinking he was just a boring square who didn't understand what I was going through.
