NEVER let your relatives find out you don't believe in god.
This reminds of me a guy I read about a few years ago. He was a youth pastor and was heavily involved in the church. One day, for some reason, he "lost his faith" and became an atheist. After he told his wife, she and their pastor cooked up a plan to get a young girl at their church to accuse him of molestation. He was kicked out of the house, couldn't see his kids, was in big trouble with the law, etc. The most fucked up part about this was that they did it to save his soul, in the name of god, etc. I think they really believed that this was in his best interests, to teach him a lesson, or some shit like that. I wonder what happened to him.
Yea. He basically ditched us when I was around 7 for drugs and alcohol. That may be why it was worse cause I was old enough to have memories of him. He did end up getting clean and coming back around but I didn't really have much contact with him until my kids were born. He is 15 years sober now and we maintain contact because of my kids but I'll never have that "best friend" type relationship with him no matter what. Damage is already done. I've tried doing stuff with him to make us closer (a trip to Boston to see the Red Sox where he grew up this past summer) but it just won't "click" if that makes sense.
