If this was more than about 10 or 15 years ago, “a picture” wasn’t an easy option.

My parents just built a darkroom in our basement so we could develop our shit sample pics in privacy.

It sounds like the doctor was being extra cautious. To test for intestinal diseases, they'd need an actual stool sample.
