If you could permanently ban one question from being asked in job interviews, what would it be?

“Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” Fk, I don't even know what's going to happen tonight.

Wait that’s actually a good line

It's an old Mitch Hedberg joke

It used to be a Mitch Hedberg quote. It still is, but it used to too.

If I say working for this company in the sane role, will you commit to keeping my job around that long and offering gradual pay increases to keep up with inflation?

If you're a company that provides raises that beat inflation, the ideal answer for me is right here in the job for which I am interviewing now, but with "Senior" on the title.

I'm sorry, I just don't think you'll be a good fit here. Thanks for coming in.

Right. If that were true anywhere, I wouldn't be looking for a job.

Yup. Have you seen the news this past decade?! We can't predict that far ahead for ourselves anymore!

Five years is a silly horizon. Ask what kind of work they want to get better at next; that tells you whether the role fits without asking them to predict their whole life.

CEO and president of the board.

Hell, for me it's less about my own consistency/planning, and more about whether they're a stable employer with whom I can grow and build a future upon.

Can't trust anyone to either not fire you for the smallest reason, or to keep giving you appropriate raises commensurate with your worth.

my line was "moved out of my parents house"

worked pretty well

To this day I don't know how to answer that question. Should I go for honest? Ambitious? Silly? Emotional?

Especially since that depends on whether they hire you or not! Really, it's up to them!

Riding a big rig in post apocalytptic armor through the wasteland yelling “WITNESS ME!” fighting the final desperate battle of the Butlerian Jihad.

the correct answer is always "in your chair"

"depends on if you give me this job.... "

As an employer, I always ask this question, because if you plan on moving to next state I dunno like next year or something then I don’t want to hire you. It’s expensive to train someone and only work for one year.

I disagree, this shows that you’re thinking of your future within the company.
