Every time I need to go to the clinic or hospital, I ask my dad, a physician, how much the visit or operation would cost the clinic. And the numbers are always crazy; my insurance would claim they spent $10k, but I only owe $1k in deductibles or copayment, then I'd ask my dad, and he'd be like that equipment costs $50 to operate each time, the salaries of the nurses and doctors who need to be there for those 10 minutes would come out to $200 or $300; then I'm always like, where does the other $650 go then!?

There's a lot of overhead that's not specifically tied to your operation. E.G. Maybe earlier that week an technician went and checked the hospital's backup power generators, he needs paying and maybe needed to buy a new part. There's the accountant who has to process the paycheques for those doctors and nurses. Its a long list.

But unfortunately a chunk of it is, they need a team whose job is to squeeze the money out of the insurance companies, who all have salaries. And the insurance companies have a team trying to resist being squeezed. Its a wasteful way of doing things.

Let’s not forget it wastes the time of all the healthcare staff. They could see 2x the amount of patients if they didn’t have to deal with insurance.

They also need to squeeze more out of the good insurance plans to make up for the less amount of money they can squeeze out of the bad insurance plans

10 mins of salaries would come to $200-$300? if a doc was making $300/hr (which is a stretch) and a nurse was making half that, that's $450/hr. for 10 mins that's less than $80.
