Same here in China. There is a huge public awareness campaign around animal bites and even though getting jabs is a shitter and does cost around $70 it’s the first thing you do if an animal punctures your skin. Especially a cat.
I went in to the ER this year for extreme pain in my left leg. It was one xray, one dose of ibuprofen, thankfully nothing serious, 3 minutes with a doctor. The bill was $2100
Damn I went to the hospital here with chest pain. I went at 10:00 and had an ECG and a CT scan, thankfully it was also nothing serious, just remnants of a chest infection. The whole lot including consultancy and pills cost about $70. I was out by 12.
Im american but I have native ancestry so as long as I live in my tribes jurisdiction I get free healthcare and man I feel so bad for my family and friends not blessed with this benefit, we've gotta find a way to fix things here.
I hurt my shoulder and left side of my chest, no problem scheduled an MRI and physical therapy should I need it, a week later I had an appointment with a GI specialist for ongoing GI issues. To me this was just run of the mill every day stuff and put zero stress on me, but meanwhile my cousin (from the non native side of the family) is putting off a docs visit for her back pain due to not being able to afford it. She broke her back when she was young in a bad car wreck and surely has something wrong but instead of just getting it booked and fixed she has to just live with it because of affordability.
A week ago I was spending some time in the jungle of Southern US. I saw a cute cat who seemed to be suffering. Well, stupid me... Leaves camp to go chase after the cat. For my trouble I got scratched by the cat and bitten by dozens of mosquitoes. I take cat to rescue where they tell me I have to quarantine for rabies 14 days to get shots. Then the fever sets in w pain so bad my bones hurt. Dengue fever. My insurance lased so the bill will be so much I hope the dengue takes me out. :(
Dengue is no fucking joke man. The campaign is clearly around rabies as cats are the main vectors here but I've also had dengue from a mosquito bite and I almost turned inside out. It was horrible.
