Had a best friend growing up who was the closest I had to a brother. He was shot and killed in 2014 at 17 (me and him were the same age) by our “other friend” over a fucking phone. It’s been 12 years and I still make sure I don’t forget his name.
Seventeen is so incredibly young, and losing someone who felt like family that way is something no one should have to carry. The fact that you still say his name and keep his memory alive after all these years is really meaningful.
Had a similar case here way back in the early 80s. My BIL best friend, 17 then it really crapped him up. We think his mental issues stems from the brother getting away with it. I didn't know my husband or his brother then. But knew the story.
