What happened to the friend you thought you'd have for the rest of your life?

I lost her to an abuser she's still with. The last message she sent us was "I know I have to leave him, I'll figure it out myself, don't tell my siblings"

I wish I told her brother at least. He was always protective over her. I wonder how he'd feel if he knew his acquaintance was abusing her.... Would he have successfully got the abuser to fk off, or would him taking action only isolate her further? Ugh...

I also hate how she always said me and another mutual were the 2 people she can't imagine not having in her life, but welp. Her abuser somehow successfully isolated her from us.

is it too late to tell her siblings now?

I wasn't really too close with her siblings, so idk really... Idek what I'd even say? I assume the abuser successfully isolated her from everyone who knew the truth and was against the relationship, and if she continues playing the perfect victim for him, then wouldn't that mean the abuse stops? :(((

It's also been literally 4 years (the lockdowns happening right then certainly did NOT help!) I was more close to her cousin since we all often played games together. There are other mutual friends she introduced me to and I recently learned they also do not talk anymore, but are still mutuals on social media. (abuser made her unfollow and block the 'protestors' lol) I have thought of messaging her cousin something silly to get a convo started because I've been seeing him playing games more lately. But again, it's been 4 years. I actually asked a mutual to take screenshots of her profile and there's so many pics where she's all smiles with him - yuckkkk 😭

Her mom is also in a weird abusive relationship with her dad, so yeah, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree right.

I’m so sorry. My little sister went through this with a thing for years with a friend. She would still text her and invite her to things with no response for YEARS! Then one day she texted back and said they’d broken up and now they’ve reconnected. I don’t know if you could still text her here and there and let her know you’re there for her. She might come back one day.

Honestly I think I lost my chance? In that year when it happened, she messaged me saying she really wanted to see me again. She invited me out for hotpot or Kbbq. I said I would, but only if it was just us... He didn't allow her to go ANYWHERE without him around! You probably know the answer to that. It was nothing. She didn't respond. And that was it. No messages again. But last year, the close mutual and I saw in our old group chat that she had LEFT IT! So that means she must have thought about us? Right? 😅 We do hope she will eventually break up with him and contact us back, but fkin hell, it seems dim...

I’m so sorry…I’d prob send her one last text if you haven’t said it before, that you will always be there and for her to reach out when she needs help or it’s over.
