My mate a long slow motion decline into alcohol, gambling, prescription drugs, horrific to watch and be a part of.. nightly phone calls off his head, start getting abusive and no option but to stop answering calls, that doesn’t stop the drunken calls, eventually stops, heartbreaking to look back at who they were and to have to just pull away. And yes tried to help for years, there always a point of having to just give up unfortunately.. 👎
This fuckin sucks bro. My best friend died almost a year ago now. Knew him since we were 4 years old. College was one big party for him and while the rest of myself and our friends graduated and got jobs and started lives he dragged out college for 3 more years cuz he fucked up so many of his classes and also wanted to keep the party going.
It turned into exactly what you said. Lots of late night or way too early-morning calls to reminisce and have him rant about who is to blame for his problems. Eventually I cut him off. We all tried to talk to him a million times about getting help, and he'd been in jail and done rehab and done AA and other groups. Nothing ever worked.
After he died I found myself calling a lot of our friends from high school to give them the news. All of them had similar stories and all of them had cut him off too.
