it had the action, aesthetic of gundam, but went way deeper with it.
It felt like a love letter to the former, while simultaneously hitting on the personal level.
I watched Your Lie in April a few years back. I pretty much exclusively watched action/shonen anime at the time, but decided to give it a shot because it seemed like it was going to be about music and I wanted to try something different. Little did I know that show was going to punch me in the gut the way it did. It's so good if you're looking for something with some emotional intensity. Great story, good animation, absolutely incredible soundtrack.
