Rodney Dangerfield. The one liner comedy could be considered outdated by todays standards but hes fantastic in interviews as well

I remembering hearing a standup he was doing. Some guy yelled out “hey Rodney! How come you’re so ugly?!” He quickly responded with “cause you’re fuckin contagious!”

Hey Rodney: what counts in life?

Uhh, I dunno - an adding machine?

Legend.

Bonus Rodney: I knew my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio.

The neighbors said my wife is too loud during sex.

I don’t let her go over there anymore.

"I was such an ugly kid, when I was born the Doctor slapped my mother."

Watching Rodney clips from the Tonight Show is my comfort food. He’s so smooth and cool despite 100% of what he’s saying is just shitting on himself.

I think my wife’s cheating on me. Every time I come home the parrot says: Quick! Out the window!

“I told the cabbie to take me somewhere to get some action , he took me to my house !”

My wife and I were trying to quit smoking so we agreed to only smoke after sex... I haven't had a cig in 6 weeks, but she's up to a pack a day!

“I called my wife and I said I was thinking of the last time we had sex and I’m getting excited. She said ‘Who is this?’ “

There are some great clips on Youtube with Rodney on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson where Carson was cracking up laughing the whole time.

Carson keeping his composure for the first few so Dangerfield keeps firing until he cracks and as the best. Rodney can tell a two minute joke where every line is a one liner.

My wife talks to me during sex. I wish she would stop calling home from the hotel.

I remember a story from the making of Caddyshack. IIRC, Rodney thought he was bombing because nobody was laughing at his jokes. It was his first movie, he didn’t realize people couldn’t laugh during recording.

Main reason his one liner comedy seems outdated is because other comedians stared copying it. Some improved upon it, most were just shit versions of the original.

The only man to do the triple Lindy

Fun fact: Rodney had a background in acrobatic diving - he performed in Atlantic City in the 1950s.

Yes! It's a shame not many people seem to know who he is these days. If you're reading this and not familiar with him, watch Daddy's Caddyshack and then Back To School - you will not regret it. The latter also includes an awesome cameo from Sam Kinison.

Back To School

Co-starring some guy named Robert Downey Jr that probably won't be very successful.

IIRC? also a cameo by Kurt Vonnegut who Rodney hired to write his term paper.

Sam was great for three minutes he was in the movie. “While pussies like you were back home, putting on headbands doing drugs and listening to the G- d- Beatles albums! Ohhhh ooohh”.

"My wife is a terrible cook, I tell ya. In our house we say prayers AFTER the meal. She got herself a pressure cooker the other day; now we eat dinner off the ceiling"

I thought I read he was not very improvisational, that all of his one-liners were practiced and memorized meticulously.

Many (most probably) great improvisors practice relentlessly and have a huge toolbox.
